Caswell L. Samms III, MBA, serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for St. Joseph’s Health with more than 20 years of experience in large healthcare organizations. Caswell provides financial leadership and oversees effective systems of business planning, budgeting, supply chain, financial reporting and control. Partners with other members of the senior leadership team on strategic initiatives and provides financial analytics and modeling forecasting to assist decision making of the senior leadership and Board of Trustees. Caswell joined St. Joseph’s Health, November 2020 from WellStar Health System in Marietta, Georgia. As a key member of WellStar’s executive leadership team, Caswell served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. His experience includes a successful record of accomplishment in operations and finance, having served in executive positions in budgeting, revenue cycle, and business development.
Prior to serving at WellStar, Samms was the Network Chief Financial Officer for New York City Health and Hospitals, a public benefit corporation with a mission to provide comprehensive and high-quality healthcare to all. Samms previously served as Vice President of Finance & Revenue Cycle at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York, and as Vice President of Finance & Planning at East Orange General Hospital. Early in his career, Samms served as a business advisory specialist for then-St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.
Caswell earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia State University, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Regis University. He is green certified in Lean Management. Samms is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He was selected by Becker’s as one of the Rising Stars “40 Under 40” and by Diversity MBA in the “Top 100 Under 50 Executive Leaders.”
Domenic J. Segalla is the Team Leader of Withum’s Healthcare Advisory Services Group. He is a Principal based out of the Firm’s New York office. With over 20 years of healthcare experience, Domenic has a broad spectrum of knowledge with his background of financial and operational executive level positions. Primarily, he has worked in large academic acute care hospitals but also has expertise in long-term care and physician practices. In addition to his comprehensive executive roles, Domenic has extensive experience in cost containment, integration and consolidation of facilities, Revenue Cycle, Strategic Planning, and “right sizing” the cost structure of facilities to correlate with their volumes.
